Urban environments today face increasing pressure — heavier rainfall, limited underground space, and the need to protect trees while supporting heavy vehicular loads. Traditional stormwater detention tanks were designed primarily for water storage. But modern cities require infrastructure that can perform multiple functions within the same footprint. This is where GrasCell® RC1000 represents a shift forward.

What Makes Next-Generation Stormwater Systems Different?
A next-generation stormwater system must do more than simply store water. It must efficiently regulate stormwater flow, withstand extreme structural loads, maximise limited underground space, integrate seamlessly with tree root management systems, support emergency vehicle access, and contribute to sustainable, circular construction practices. GrasCell® RC1000 was engineered with these evolving urban demands in mind. Manufactured from 100% recycled polypropylene, this modular system combines a high void ratio for effective water detention with exceptional compressive strength, capable of supporting heavy loads, including a fully loaded fire engine.
Beyond Water Storage: Multi-Functional Urban Infrastructure
Unlike conventional tanks that serve a single function, RC1000 is designed as a multi-performance urban system. It provides high-capacity underground stormwater detention with controlled discharge, while also functioning as a structural platform for tree root management — protecting and guiding healthy root growth beneath pavements and hardscapes. Engineered to withstand heavy vehicular loads, it supports fire engine–accessible routes and emergency access areas, and is suitable for double slab formwork and raised structural platform applications. In dense urban environments, this ability to integrate structural strength with ecological functionality is not just beneficial, it is essential.
Building Smarter, More Resilient Cities
As rainfall intensifies and cities continue to densify, infrastructure must evolve beyond single-function systems. GrasCell® RC1000 demonstrates how stormwater management can be integrated with tree protection, structural performance and sustainable materials — forming the foundation of smarter, greener urban development. It is not just a detention tank. It is a new generation of multi-performance urban infrastructure.
