PlanterCell® 36
Lightweight Retention & Detention Tray for Metal Roof Green Systems
The PlanterCell® 36 is a lightweight, high-strength modular retention and detention tray engineered specifically for metal roofs, lightweight rooftop greenery systems and sustainable stormwater management applications. Designed to support both water retention and controlled detention functions, the system helps manage rainwater runoff while promoting healthier rooftop vegetation and climate-responsive building design.
With an integrated water storage capacity of approximately 22.2L/m², PlanterCell® 36 temporarily retains rainwater during heavy storms and slowly releases excess water through controlled drainage pathways. This helps reduce peak stormwater discharge, minimise surface runoff and support urban flood mitigation strategies.
Its lightweight profile makes it especially suitable for rooftops with structural weight limitations, including metal roof structures, transport shelters, rooftop gardens and lightweight green roof applications. At the same time, the modular tray system supports planting media and light foot traffic while improving rooftop thermal performance and reducing Urban Heat Island (UHI) effects.
Engineered for fast installation and long-term durability, PlanterCell® 36 provides architects and developers with a practical solution for integrating green and blue infrastructure into modern urban environments.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. Why is PlanterCell® 36 suitable for metal roofs?
Its lightweight modular design is based on the groves of Metal roofs which reduces labour and material costs
2. What is the difference between retention and detention?
Retention stores water for longer periods to support plant hydration and reuse, while detention temporarily slows and controls stormwater discharge during heavy rainfall.
